A Twenty Yard Stroll
A Twenty Yard Stroll
(A Perspective on Matthew 19:16-24)

Review:
“John embarks on a massive and timely effort given the current (2009) global financial crisis and the challenge to make sense of the Divine will and purpose for humankind and for us as individuals as he seeks to unravel the implications for today of Jesus’ encounter with the “Rich Young Ruler.” John pleads for growth in values as well as wealth based on a critique of Maslow’s “Hierarchy of Needs”. This comes through individual (personal), community and social engagement at all levels. In his final Chapter, he proposes steps for a “Full Life” and he invites us to risk ourselves by taking the eponymous “twenty yard stroll” across the divide between us and others. This little “treasure” will challenge us all to active engagement in addressing crucial issues of need and economic relations today.”
